The Congress on Thursday accused the Narendra Modi government of being "petty and partisan" and stopping the Food Corporation of India from selling rice to the Karnataka government for its free rice distribution scheme, drawing sharp reactions from the BJP. In Hassan yesterday, Siddaramaiah told reporters that the investigation would include irregularities in the construction of four medical colleges, allegations that government tenders were approved with a 40% commission, irregularities in the procurement of medical equipment during the Covid pandemic, PSI recruitment scams, and Bitcoin scams. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that “major scams” perpetrated during BJP rule will be investigated again. Following the FIR, a war of words ensued between both parties, with the BJP calling the FIR “politically motivated”, and the Congress accusing the saffron party of being unable to follow “the law of the land”.
The FIR at the High Grounds Police Station filed Tuesday was based on a complaint lodged by Ramesh Babu, co-chairman, of KPCC Communication and Social Media Department.
In other news, the Karnataka Police have registered an FIR against BJP’s IT cell head Amit Malviya over a video he posted against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The meteorological department has asked fishermen not to venture into the sea as it predicts squally weather with wind speed reaching 45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph along the Karnataka coast till July 2. District administrations have been asked to deploy de-watering pumps and other equipment in these areas to handle the situation if needed.
